Sweet, fast, and easy to make: Salame di Cioccolato is a delicious and fun dessert to make, perfect for any skill level. This dessert does not require any baking and is made of only 4 ingredients! Chocolate, butter, sugar, and cookies. It is called Salame because it resembles one, thanks to the powdered sugar coating, though it tastes like the complete opposite of an actual salami. It is often called Turkish or Viking Salami, a name that changes depending on the region. Every family gets creative with their own recipe, and they might add or change ingredients based on their taste, we will show you a few variations at the bottom of the recipe!

Step by step method

  • Step 1

Start by cutting the chocolate into small pieces and melting it in a small bowl. We suggest using the bain-marie method, however, you can use the microwave as well, just be careful not to burn the chocolate, since that can happen quite easily.

  • Step 2

Take the room temperature butter, and chop it into manageable cubes. Place the butter cubes into a bigger bowl, and add the sugar.

  • Step 3

Whisk the butter and sugar until it turns into a thick cream, then start adding the melted chocolate, rum, and cocoa powder. Keep mixing until all of the ingredients are well incorporated.

  • Step 4

Now it is time to crush and mix the biscuits in the mixture. You can either crush the biscuits by hand or use a kitchen hammer, the latter will result in a smoother texture in the finished product.

  • Step 5

Prepare a sheet of baking paper and place the mixture on top of it. Carefully mold the mix into a cylinder-like shape, then roll the baking paper and pinch the ends of it to seal it. Leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours.

  • Step 6

Once the chocolate salami has cooled off, you can take it out of the baking paper and roll it into some powdered sugar. Enjoy!

Tips & variations

  • Use coffee instead of cocoa powder for a taste resembling Tiramisu

  • Use walnuts, jelly beans, or dates instead of biscuits

  • Instead of rum, you can use orange juice or a different liquor

  • The best cookies for this recipe are the driest that you can find
